Jim Heckman is the Counseling Pastor. He has been involved with pastoral counseling for over 30 years. Jim is an ordained pastoral counselor with the Evangelical Congregational Church. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Education (Kean University), a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Counseling (Biblical Theological Seminary), a Master of Education degree in Secondary School Counseling (Lancaster Bible College Graduate School), and has done doctoral (Ph.D) work at Capital Seminary and Graduate School in Leadership Studies. He has also done post-graduate work in brain-based learning through Nova Southeastern University. Jim is a Board Certified Christian Counselor, a Board Certified Pastoral Counselor and a Certified Master Christian Life Coach through the American Association of Christian Counselors. Jim is also a Certified Police Chaplain. He has worked in private and public education as a teacher (English/Social Studies), principal and school counselor. In addition, he has served in several local counseling agencies as a family therapist, was a youth pastor for many years, and maintained a private counseling practice for 20 years specializing in counseling middle school and high school youth. He counsels individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and children at Grace Community Church. Jim also offers Spiritual Direction and Christian Life Coaching, specializing in wellness coaching and spiritual formation coaching.
Jim has been married to his wife Jeni for 37 years. They have two adult children and five grandchildren. He is an avid reader and enjoys spending time with family and friends, writing, baseball, dogs, health and fitness, and history (in particular the history of the American Revolution, Irish history, church history, and the philosophy of history).
