Now my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you to tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. (1 Kings 1:20)

MY MOUNTAIN OF DEBT

I recently paid off all of my debt as of August 31st. I paid $95,000!!!! Yes, you read that correctly. $95,000 on a social worker’s salary, and I paid it off by myself (with Jesus’ help, of course). This giant amount of debt felt impossible at one point, but it has been a dream of mine to be debt-free since I started my debt-free journey eight years ago. I know the 8 years is longer than Dave Ramsey recommends, but I can finally say I’m debt-free in my thirties.

UNIMAGINABLE GIANTS

At one point, the giant I faced felt like a perpetual struggle. I had medical debt, car loans, and even bigger student loans. However, with countless budgeting efforts, extra shifts working in the emergency department, and working multiple jobs, I managed to overcome it. I’m sure you have faced your own giants in life that felt unimaginable.

I wonder if Solomon felt that way when it looked like he wasn’t going to be king, but God prevailed, and Solomon became king.

ADONIJAH – DAVID’S GIANT OF AN ENEMY

Here is the backstory if you need a reminder: In 1 King 1, we learn that King David’s health was failing, and his son, Adonijah, kept exalting himself, saying, “I will be king”. The issue was that Adonijah didn’t consult God, and David’s son, Solomon, was supposed to be king. The other problem is that King David’s trusted two advisors, Joab and Abiathar, supported Adonijah’s plan. Adonijah’s plot looked like it would succeed. Adonijah lavishly sacrificed oxen, cattle, and sheep and invited all the king’s sons to celebrate his coronation.

King David had no idea about Adonijah’s plans. Then Solomon’s mother went to David and told him what was going on. 1 Kings 1:20 says, “Now, my lord the king, the eyes of Israel are on you to tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.”

GOD KNOWS OUT GIANTS

God knows the giants we face. He knew the giant Solomon and his mother were facing. Their lives were in danger should Adonijah become king. David swore an oath that Solomon would become king. David faced his giant and won.

What giants do you face? I made some changes in lifestyle and commitment to find victory. Are you willing to submit to God in order to claim victory over your giant(s)? Solomon became king, and the giant he and David faced was no more.

ALL HIS PROMISES ARE TRUE

Your giant might not be a king or someone wanting to take your spot in a position God promised you. It might not be 95,000 dollars in debt, but God’s promises always come to pass. Trust God and be obedient to His plan. God’s promises are perfect. Our giants face defeat because of His power.

God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. (Psalm 18:30)
