“I’ll just file these papers before we leave,” I thought, before picking up the freshly baked cookies and walking over to the basement steps. Halfway down the stairs, my gaze shifted toward my husband, Jeff, waiting by the garage door. As I asked him to switch on the light above the desk, I missed the last step! While Jeff drove to the ER, I called my in-laws to inform them we would not make it to dinner. X-rays revealed a bimalleolar fracture requiring surgery. Healing and recovery took time.
A TIME TO HEAL
The Preacher writes in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 that “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven.” Verse three includes, “a time to heal.” Modern technology can assess broken bones, but broken hearts are more difficult to diagnose and to heal. Allowing Father God’s eternal eyes to examine your hurting heart is the remedy. “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow]” (Psalm 147:3).
GOD IS PRESENT WHEN FRACTURES OCCUR
God is present when our fractures occur, and He knows all our broken and painful places. Pouring out your pent-up emotions, frustrations, and disappointments in prayer will cleanse even the deepest wound. “O LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You have healed me.” (Psalm 30:2) God makes a healing balm available for recovery: a daily prescription of reading Scripture aloud will let God’s promises settle deep into your soul. “The Lord’s loving kindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning, great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him.” (Lamentations 3:22-25)
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
You are not alone. God is near, He hears your cry and will faithfully respond. “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.” (Psalm 145:18) Your circumstances may have changed, and progress may feel slow, but healing will come! Continue to lean on Jesus daily. He will provide the strength you need to recover. Your perseverance through pain will result in a testimony of God’s goodness. In time, you will join the Psalmist in saying, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; therefore, my heart exults, and with my song I shall thank Him. (Psalm 28:7) Healing and recovery take time. Claim these, and other healing verses, as your own. Rely on God for support. Healing takes time, and He will carry you through!
