Famous words from Joseph to his brothers who tried to kill him: “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive.” (Genesis 50:20). Redemption: to rescue or ransom from a life-threatening situation. That is the significance of this verse.
SIGNIFICANCE OF JUNE 22ND
This past June 22nd, after months of study, I took my LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Work) exam. That date is a heavy one for me because on that same day, a few years ago, I had surgery and was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition. I remember my tears and the deep hurt that overwhelmed my heart. The hospital handed me a small piece of paper containing the diagnosis. It changed my life.
On June 22nd, 2026, I passed my LCSW exam. To some, the same dates might mean just a coincidence. But for me, this is a reminder that God is the Redeemer of the Broken. He is the Rescuer.
REDEEMER OF THE BROKEN
God was the Redeemer of the Broken for Joseph. Joseph was betrayed and sold into slavery by his own brothers. Later, while serving faithfully in Egypt, he was falsely accused of something he didn’t do and was thrown into prison. Yet God wasn’t finished with his story. In God’s perfect timing, He raised Joseph to become the second-in-command under Pharaoh. The Redeemer’s hand was at work.
GOD HAS, AND STILL IS, REDEEMING ME
Take a minute and reflect. God was at work all the time, while others plotted against Joseph. What others meant for evil, God used for good. Joseph’s story reminds us that God can redeem even the most painful chapters of our lives. God has, and still is, redeeming mine.
REDEEMER OF EVEN THE WORST
I know how easy it is to forget the truth when life throws us curveballs, when we are filled with hurt. Maybe it is a life-changing diagnosis or a conversation that didn’t go as planned. What about the disappointment that feels too heavy to carry? God can redeem even the worst.
Redemption doesn’t always happen on our timeline, and it doesn’t always look the way we imagined. But God has a way of bringing beauty from brokenness, hope from sorrow, and purpose from pain.
Passing my exam on June 22 didn’t erase what happened during that hospital stay years ago. But it reminded me that God is still writing my story. He is faithful to redeem even the days we once thought would only be remembered for their pain. I’ll never look at June 22 the same way again. What was once a date marked by grief is now also marked by God’s faithfulness.
