Read: Exodus 18:1-27
Have you seen the new series “The Americas” narrated by Tom Hanks? It is full of breathtaking videography of animals, birds, reptiles and insects of all shapes and sizes from North and South America. I am captivated by the multitude of unique facts the show supplies, detailing how these creatures function in their challenging environment with perfectly created skills and innate characteristics. Week after week, certainly without intending to, this secular TV show shouts “YES, THERE IS A GOD AND HE CARES DEEPLY FOR THOSE HE CREATES!”
This same message is loud and clear in Exodus. Not long after the spectacular Red Sea crossing, Moses is overwhelmed trying to lead 1.5 million people. He camps out in the wilderness with people who are often angry and complaining. Conflicts surround him, while his wife and kids are far away. Even though he spends regular time with God, Moses experiences exhaustion, discouragement, inadequacy, and frustration without an end in sight.
GOD CARES ABOUT INDIVIDUALS
Then God prompts Jethro (Moses’ father-in-law) to bring Moses’ wife and kids to join the camp. During his visit, Jethro sees Moses’ exhaustion and gives him wise advice on how to delegate. What a blessing and relief Jethro’s visit is for Moses! We can see that God cares not only for His people as a nation but also cares about Moses as an individual.
MORE THAN SHOWING UP JUST FOR THE SPECTACULAR
God is a personal God. He does not just show up for spectacular saves, like the plagues and the Red Sea crossing. God is intimately acquainted with us, providing for us and caring about what we feel and experience every day. He is the God of details, something “The Americas” unintentionally points out about God’s creation.
GOD CARES ABOUT EVERYTHING
In Psalms, David writes about the details: O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. (Psalm 139: 1-4)
God cares about everything. The Apostle Peter reminds us, “Cast all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully).” (1Peter 5:7)
HE CARES ABOUT YOUR DETAILS
Are you willing to allow God to become involved in the details of your daily life? Have you considered opening to Him about your emotions? He is the God Who cares about the details of your life. Remember—it is not coincidence, it is providence! He cares about you [with deepest affection and watches over you very carefully).
