Read: Hebrews 4:16
Several weeks ago on a late Friday afternoon, my husband Frank’s phone rang unexpectedly. It was our daughter Veronica. She needed help. “Dad,” she said, “I just came out of work and my car won’t start. I’m sorry to bother you, but I didn’t know what to do.”
Her husband, Nick, was out of town for the day and not available to help her. Frank assured Veronica that she was NOT a bother. We jumped in the car and drove from Willow Street to Reading, where she was stranded. In less than five Frank fixed the issue and got the car running. Veronica felt bad that we took the time to come for something that was such a quick and simple (for him) fix. Frank didn’t mind at all.
A FATHER’S HEART
A father’s heart is always ready and willing to help his children. I couldn’t stop thinking about how this was just one example of how our girls don’t hesitate to call their dad when faced with something they don’t know how to handle. He is the one who gets the calls about car problems. Once he even got a call about a dead opossum.
DO I TRUST?
Our daughters’ confidence in coming to their father, and his immediate availability to listen and help, challenges me. Do I trust God, my Heavenly Father, the way our girls trust their dad? How often do I find myself stranded and unable to fix something? Am I quick to call my Heavenly Father and ask Him for help?
What about you? Do you know that there is no problem that is too small or insignificant for your Heavenly Father? He wants you to come to Him.
THE HEART READY AND WILLING TO HELP
Just like Frank and Veronica, God wants to help you and welcomes time spent together. You can have conversations with God. He gives generously. Remember, the Father’s heart is always ready and willing to help his children.
Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with fullest confidence, that we may receive mercy for our failures and grace to help in the hour of need. (Hebrews 4:16)
