WHEN THE ACCUSATION IS NOT TRUE

“When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.” 1 Peter 2:23

At times, even with pure intentions, people are unhappy with the handling of situations. This hit me recently. I was accused of something untrue and against my character. It hurt deeply because it contradicted everything I believe about myself. This personal experience resurfaced my memories of similar situations in the past.

FACING THE LIE

Perhaps you can relate. Thinking back, have you ever been in a place in life where an accusation was made about you that was wildly untrue? It was clearly a lie.

For me, this particular injustice weighed on me for two days. I was both distraught and frustrated at the accusation. Other people involved in this situation fully supported me and didn’t support the lie, yet it still hurt my heart. Building on this struggle, I began to reflect on how others have faced similar pain.

JESUS’ RESPONSE

I wonder if Jesus felt that way when he knew he was the Son of God, yet many believed he committed blasphemy. In Matthew 26:59–63, the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin created concocted evidence against Jesus so they could put him to death. Many false witnesses came forward with fabricated statements. The accusations against him clearly lies, yet Jesus remained silent. Only a select few people truly believed in who he was. Jesus determined to go to the cross, knowing the truth. He chose to die for our sins. Reflecting on this, I remember the season’s significance.

GOD WILL MAKE ALL THINGS RIGHT

Easter’s approach reminds us that even Jesus endured false accusations, He responded with love, forgiveness, and unwavering purpose. When facing unfair accusations, we can find comfort and strength in knowing we are not alone—Jesus walked this path before us and showed us how to trust in God’s just judgment. We have the promise, “For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing concealed that will not be made known and brought to light” (Luke 8:17). Let us carry that same hope and assurance as we journey forward, even in the midst of lies. God will make all things right.
