Say what you want; in fact, say anything you want. If your behavior in life doesn’t back up what you say, you’ve got a problem. Jesus puts it this way, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only HE WHO DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN” (Matthew 7:21). If you profess to be a follower of Jesus Christ, your behavior in life should reflect your belief in Jesus Christ. So, how’s YOUR behavior?
Unpacking this truth and answering that question is the focus of 1 John 3:4-10. In this next passage of Scripture, John introduces a straightforward conversation about sin in the life of a Christian. It’s an important conversation to have if we want to understand how what we believe about Jesus makes a difference in how we behave in daily life. In these verses, John addresses three subjects: the nature of sin, the Savior from sin, and the Christian and sin.
Join me and your GCC family this weekend as we ‘connect the dots’ between belief and behavior!
Join your GCC family as we continue to celebrate the truth that JESUS IS LORD! We will begin a new sermon series this weekend that will take us into the riches of 1, 2, and 3 John. These New Testament letters were written to a group of churches grappling with the fall-out from false teaching and ungodly behavior. These letters were written to bring assurance and certainty to Christians – the assurance that the Christian faith is absolutely true and Jesus is truly the one and only Savior of the world. And the assurance that we can have a new and eternal life in Jesus Christ!
